GOOGLE REVIEW GUIDE · UK BUSINESSES

How to challenge fake Google reviews

A review mentions a job you cannot trace, a branch you do not run or a customer name you do not recognise. Those details deserve investigation. They do not all carry the same weight. We help UK businesses work out whether a disputed review has a supported removal case and what would clarify it.

Review Removal guide · Sources checked

“I cannot find this customer” is the start of an investigation, not its conclusion.

A suspicion is a lead. A contradiction is something to check.

Needs more context

“We don’t recognise the name.”

Check enquiries and bookings made by someone else. The public account name may not be the name in your records.

More specific

“This describes a service we have never offered.”

Identify the exact service, the relevant period and the records supporting the mismatch. It is a clearer point to investigate, though it still needs assessment.

Build a case around facts you can support

Useful leads include a reference to a service you have never offered, a demonstrable link to a competing business, or messages connecting a review to an organised campaign. Each needs context. An unfamiliar profile photo, a new account, or a lack of other reviews is a weak foundation by itself.

FICTIONAL EXAMPLE · NOT A CLIENT RESULT

Read the complaint before deciding it is fake

My fitted wardrobe arrived in the wrong colour and the installer left without finishing.

For a firm that only repairs boilers, the service described suggests a mismatch worth checking. For a fitted-furniture business, the same complaint could be genuine. The business records and context determine the assessment.

Keep separate issues separate

A review may contain a concern beyond authenticity, such as disclosure of private information. Identify the exact passage and explain the issue rather than using “fake” as a catch-all label. If the complaint is genuine, consider a factual response that acknowledges the experience without exposing the customer’s records.

Build a short, checkable record

  • A link and dated screenshot of each disputed review.
  • Relevant booking, order, or contact checks, including the period searched.
  • Verifiable contradictions about your services, branch, or business identity.
  • Any direct messages or public records supporting a claimed connection; distinguish facts from suspicions.

Keep original records. Share only what is relevant, and avoid putting private customer or staff information into a public reply.

From suspicion to a supported report

These steps explain the platform’s published process. Reporting is available without paying for our service.

  1. Compare the review with Google’s content policy and identify the closest supported concern.
  2. Use the report option on the review or the Reviews Management Tool. Select the reason that matches the issue.
  3. Keep the decision and your evidence. If removal is rejected, check the appeal guidance rather than starting a series of identical reports.

Bring the case to a specialist

We check the review against the explanation and records you provide, including bookings, enquiries and the branch involved. The aim is to give you a useful recommendation quickly, without asking you to treat an unfamiliar name as proof of a fake review.

Already tried the standard reporting process? We can assess whether further options are available for your case.
